Mumbai (PTI). Indian documentary feature ‘Writing with Fire’ has advanced to the next round at the 94th season of the Academy Awards. Its director Rintu Thomas says this is an extraordinary moment for the country and his team. At the same time, the Indian film ‘Pebbles’ has been out of the race for the Oscars in the International Feature Film category. Now all eyes are on ‘Writing with Fire.’ Directed by Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, both debutants, “Writing With Fire” chronicles the rise of Khabar Lahariya, India’s only newspaper run by Dalit women.

According to the shortlist announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the documentary is among fifteen films that have entered the next round of the 2022 Academy Awards. Thomas shared a screenshot of the announcement on Twitter.
Pebbles out
Meanwhile, India’s official entry in the international feature film category “Pebbles” could not take it to the next level. Vinothraj PS directs him. The play tells the story of an alcoholic husband who, after his long-suffering wife runs away, sets out with his young son to find her and bring her back. Fifteen films are still running for the top prize in the international feature film category. Films from 92 countries were eligible in the class.
